Sister-city relations between Bukhara and the French city of Rueil-Malmaison were established in 1999. Since then, cooperation in the fields of culture, tourism, education, and sports has developed steadily. Over the years, nearly 30 cultural and educational events and exhibitions have been held, along with dozens of delegation exchanges. In 2014–2015, to mark the 15th anniversary of the sister-city partnership, the “Great Silk Road” exhibition was organized in Rueil-Malmaison. In 2019, as part of the celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of cooperation, the “Uzbek Garden” was opened and a monument to Abu Ali ibn Sina (Avicenna) was unveiled. Today, this partnership continues to contribute to strengthening people-to-people diplomacy, promoting cultural heritage, and fostering mutual friendship.
